A hardy, fast-growing coastal banksia with distinctive silver-backed leaves and large golden-yellow flower spikes. Excellent coastal specimen tree that attracts nectar-feeding birds and provides habitat. Tolerates salt spray, wind, and poor soils. Flowers autumn to winter, providing crucial nectar when few other species are blooming.
GROWTH TIMELINE
Sow in well-draining seed raising mix. Cover lightly or surface sow. Keep moist but not waterlogged. Germinates in 2-4 weeks. Transplant seedlings when they have 4-6 true leaves.
